Frenze Beck Green Infrastructure

Frenze Beck is a 15-acre county wildlife site on the eastern edge of Diss off Sawmills Road. The site is owned by South Norfolk Council and is managed in partnership with the River Waveney Trust.  Since 2016, the River Waveney Trust has worked closely with South Norfolk Council and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, following a 10-year restoration plan. Funding from the GNGB has enabled the creation of a safe circular walk all around this site, whilst diverting users away from the more ecologically sensitive areas. The project also provided signage and furniture to enhance the experience for users of the site. In addition, the River Waveney Trust was able to purchase equipment and training to help manage the site effectively for both access and carry out a variety practical conservation work which will enhance the biodiversity of the site.

The site has been developed into a well-used local resource. The improved footpath network and interpretation has created improved access and enjoyment to the site. Ecologically speaking, the site is managed sensitively and is back in positive management after many years of neglect.

The project involved community engagement, with a committed team of River Waveney Trust volunteers managing the site under the supervision of South Norfolk Council’s Community Asset Team.  The project also delivers on a key strategic priority or improving access to and connectivity between green spaces.
