Recreation Road Swimming Pool

Project details
This project made improvements to Recreation Road School Swimming Pool, including the installation of fencing, a covered bike store, and increased car park capacity.
Prior to this project access to the pool had been through the school site. The construction of new fencing has allowed the swimming pool to be accessed by the community during the school day whilst safeguarding pupils. This has significantly increased the number of hours per day that the site can be used.
Providing a covered cycle storage area has encouraged active travel and, with the enlarged car park, makes it easier for visitors to access both the swimming pool and the neighbouring sports centre.
The Greater Norwich Growth Board fully funded this project for £60,000, as it was able to offer significant community benefit for a relatively small cost. This project addressed a key strategic need for the area, due to a lack of water space in Norwich. The improvements to the pool have supported local schools to complete the Key Stage 2 curriculum, and allowed people to learn a vital life skill.
Improved access has led to a significant increase in bookings since the work was completed, demonstrating the benefit of this project to the local community. The increased viability of the pool ensures that it remains open and available for use into the future.
